Our October Topic
“OK Google, Tell Me About Myself”
Lisa Chang, Data Scientist and Software Engineer, Praxis Engineering, specializing in Artificial Intelligence (Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Information Retrieval)
Even if you never used it, Google has the ability to record your life. With this data, it is possible to determine where you live, work, shop, and go on vacation. The data can also be used to predict the likelihood that you will be at a specific place at a certain time, or that you are in the market to buy certain items. Ever see those Ads pop up on your social media feed?
Lisa presents a captivating walk-through of her own analysis using her personal dataset, and has graciously provided to NMTC members and guests a link to her code that you can use to do the same analysis on your own data…and if you have kids online, you’ll want to know this.
While personal, the presentation will also show how similar analyses allow businesses and organizations to subtly change the ways they interact with us, while we remain none-the-wiser.
Recently, 50 states’ Attorneys General launched investigations into Google to determine how your data may be manipulated unfairly.
