Assent of Drones JWCAssent of Drones presented by SURVICE Engineering and sponsored by Drone Mats. May 06, 2021

Whether these unmanned aircraft are controlled by a remote or accessed via a smartphone app, they possess the capability of reaching the most remote areas with little to no manpower needed and require the least amount of effort, time, and energy. This is one of the biggest reasons why they are being adopted worldwide, especially by these four sectors: Military, Commercial, Personal, and Future Technology. The designs presented by the SURVICE Engineering team are becoming capable of transporting up to 500 lbs.

A few of the uses identified for drones:

Aerial photography for journalism and film
Express shipping and delivery
Gathering information or supplying essentials for disaster management
Thermal sensor drones for search and rescue operations
Geographic mapping of inaccessible terrain and locations
Building safety inspections
Precision crop monitoring
Unmanned cargo transport
Law enforcement and border control surveillance
Storm tracking and forecasting hurricanes and tornadoes
and, multiple military applications.

Development of hundreds of more uses of drones are underway due to the multiple investments pouring into this promising industry everyday. Estimated to be a $64 Billion industry by 2023, with millions of drones in use.

Not for you? at one time, every innovative technology faced that, maybe even the wheel.

SPEAKER

Mark Butkiewicz, Applied Technology Operations Manager (ATO) for SURVICE Engineering, and now creating, here in Churchville, MD, one of the country’s most unique drone research facilities – SURVICE ATO at the Harford County Airport. It’s unique because it has its own, and rare to get, restricted flying zone for drones; it’s on the maps of the FAA and airlines maps, with this new facility supporting the development and testing of the latest in unmanned multirotor platforms and integration of custom payloads and autonomous technologies.

pdfAtlantic Data Forensics NMTC 3 Magic Things March 2021

On March 04, 2021, Brian Dykstra, CEO of Atlantic Data Forensics, Inc., with over 25 years’ experience in investigations, computer forensics, incident response, and secure network architecture and his company, an internationally recognized company handling hundreds of forensic investigations and data breaches each year for clients in the US, presented the most valuable tips for us to stay safe in the cyber world.

The basis for his presentation centered around Cyber Crime- one of the greatest threats to every business, and the pandemic has increased the threat 400% as noted recently by the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center- IC(3). The impacts to the financial health of the company, reputation, and ability to operate can be catastrophic if not handled well from the time of the incident identification. Brian reviewed some recent cases during the pandemic that employers have faced and how they handled the situation.

His solution is: “Be Proactive, Prepare For The New Threats”

  • Ransomware is an Evolving Threat that Now Exploits the New Normal Brought on by the COVID-19 Pandemic
  • Organizations with Newly Remote Workers are at Heightened Risk
  • Enterprises can Deploy “Three Magic Things,” which will Significantly Reduce Their Risk of a Cyber Incident at Little to No Cost

Presentation
Before the Corona virus, we built relationships in-person, with often impromptu and the give and take conversations in meetings and coffee shops, plus the occasional, traditional phone calls and the far too many emails.

Now we find ourselves, almost daily, communicating with a 2 in square video of another person on webcams – colleagues, customers, potential clients, kids teachers.
Surprisingly, that could reveal a lot about that person if you know what to look for, and even better yet, when you meet the person..

What you missed was an impactful summary innovative and effective communications tools and trust-building methods, that typically are conducted in a day’s long workshop.

This diagnostic tool shown here starts you on the path to building TRUST, and effectively connecting with others, and importantly, them reciprocating.

While COVID-19 has forced many businesses to change their business models quickly, “pivoting” has been and will continue to be a critical skill for businesses to survive and grow. This discussion focused on key mega trends in the next decade and the framework to help leaders prepare for changes. To illustrate the application of the framework, they used how government contractors can build artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities to stay competitive.

The SC&H Group presented the HOT Cooler Topic: Will the looming PPP Forgiveness become your Nightmare?

The SC&H group (James Eaton and Brian Kirst) expertly touched on:
Calculating your loan forgiveness, the guidelines to prevent confusion—and phone calls to your bank.
What’s best to track allowable expenses – spreadsheets, technology and your accountant.
Tax time – will there be complications with IRS Code Section 265 and deductions for “otherwise allowable expenses that are allowable to exempt income.”
Who will do and how will the audits be, and how to prepare?
What are the mechanisms to report the data required for forgiveness back to the bank.

TOPIC: Working Remotely & Securely, NOW!

COVID-19 has changed the way we live our day-to-day lives and heightened the need for enhanced protection as we navigate new IT territory. Encourage your employees to help with cybersecurity by being vigilant for phishing attempts and taking extra measures to protect their computers, their digital identities, and their information.

Security experts consider signing in to sensitive office networks with public Wi-Fi or unsecured network connections akin to “swimming in shark-infested waters”—it’s only a matter of time before you get bit. Always use private, password-protected Wi-Fi networks to work from home, and talk to a trusted IT provider about setting up a VPN that can minimize the risk to devices and data.

This informative session was presented by the experts at CMIT Solutions on best practices for protecting your networks, information, and communications in the current environment. (see below CMIT Solutions description)

Key questions answered were:

  • Did you send the work laptop home with employee?
  • Was that laptop updated before you sent it home?
  • Does the laptop have full cybersecurity agents running and are they up to date?
  • Do you have remote support for your users?
  • Have you implemented VPN?
  • Have you implemented multi-factor authentication?
  • Are you using cloud services vs having remote access to your servers?
  • If any of the answers is NO, how will you remediate.
  • If you are working remotely and need to collaborate, what tool are you using?

Our Presenters
In today’s fast-paced digital world, every business relies on solid IT support. CMIT Solutions support services provides this solid IT support to small and medium-sized businesses, specializing in delivering enterprise-level support worthy of a Fortune 500 company – at a price a small to medium-sized business can appreciate.

Even better, they combine the best of both worlds: every CMIT office is independently owned and operated, while still being backed by a nationwide network of more than 200 locations and 750 technicians, who come from Fortune 500 backgrounds, quickly, for you, scaling big company support down to your office, user and device.
