News from NMTC

With over 40 registered, July 16 at Michael’s Cafe in Timonium got crowded, soon.

Both large and small companies showed up, including heads of organizations as DBED’s Workforce Investment Board, the Regional Manufacturing Institute, Technology Commercialization Ventures, Emerging Technology Center-Baltimore, and I95 BUSINESS Magazine.

Our next CYAH (Connects You After Hours) is the same location on August 20, and even though it’s summer vacation time, many vowed to return and bring a friend, and Neil Davis, TEDCO, is coming back with more valuable tips for ALL businesses.

Well received was Neil Davis’s condensed presentation on how to make a Perfect Pitch for your business.

Even with the sudden entry of bar music, his voice carried well (working on this for next time, to see if they can over-ride the timer).

And always welcome, were two attending company’s who decided to become members. On top of that, Whiteford, Taylor and Preston, former members up to a few years ago, also decided to re-new membership.

The NMTC CYAH (Connects You After Hours) began building a tech-centric meeting group in Cecil County, this 3rd Thursday of July, at Minihane’s Irish Pub. Despite tornado warnings and impending rain (yes, we got wet when we left), the response was impressive, with multiple members of the following organizations attending, listed below:

The CYAH, for over 5 years, has  offered an informal forum where  tech-focused leaders, innovators and growing manufacturing, cyber and chemical businesses in northeastern Maryland meet; many for the first time, to collaborate and discover opportunities.

The attending organizations eagerly discussed next steps to bring together the region’s (Includes Delaware) tech community to accelerate the growth of technology-based businesses and in building their much needed STEM workforce.

Today, NMTC Presents (and our member’s meeting) we had the rare opportunity to have a very knowledgeable  member of our local healthcare community present –   Rick Casteel, VP Technology at Upper Chesapeake Health Care who gave us startling insight into what we seem to tae for granted – accuracy and complexity of our healthcare and how much the government is involved and adding regulations to it.

The attached presentation will never substitute for actually being there, listening to the Q&A and hearing Rick comment, in depth, on each slide. It will give a you an idea of what  questions to ask your doctor, a guide to look for this technology for you and your family and concern for the complexity of added regulations affecting doctor’s time with you.

Our May NMTC Presents offered a down-right simple, yet comprehensive view into cybersecurity; or as the speaker Art Jacoby would say, ‘Digital Security”.

BUY MARYLAND CYBER (BMC) is a statewide buyer/seller intro program to help Maryland cybersecurity companies increase sales and create 10,000 new jobs by year-end 2017. Hundreds of cyber companies will meet thousands of businesses as dozens of business member organizations host BMC buyer/seller connection events.

NMTC whole-hearted supports this effort, and when realized, will bring thousands of high-paying cyber jobs to northern MD.

NMTC Board Member, Denise Carnaggio, and CSSC BRAC Coordinator for Harford County OED, receives prestigious Major General John G. Appel Award for her lengthy and un-relenting support of the APG-Harford County community, at the recent Harford County Chamber, Military Appreciation Luncheon, May 14, 2015.  

The award was presented by its 2014 recipient, Dean Ertwine, BG US Army (ret), formew Battelle executive and now, Executive Director, MD Business Round Table.

Attended by a record 380, at the Richlin Ballroom, Edgewood, MD, it was exciting. Those knowing Denise (and I’d bet it was 370 in the room who did), broke out in applause, and yes, whistles when her name was announced.

STEM Summit XII was held May 8, 2015, at L-3 Communications at Aberdeen Proving Ground, and focused on the topic of Women  In STEM: Progress and Challenges in Closing the Gender Gap.
